Endoscopic Transforaminal Discectomy

Endoscopic transforaminal discectomy is a minimally invasive surgical procedure which removes damaged or herniated disc material from the spine. This procedure aims to relieve pain caused by the bulging of discs pressing on the spine.

We use this procedure at California Spine & Pain Institute with an endoscope, which allows Dr. Magued Fadly a view of the affected disc and nerves. The surgery is performed through a surgical tube. Our minimally invasive techniques mean faster recovery time for you and a return to regular activity.

IS ENDOSCOPIC TRANSFORAMINAL DISCECTOMY RIGHT FOR ME?

Herniated or bulging discs in the spine can cause you to suffer from pain, numbness, tingling, or weakness. Your symptoms may extend from the back into your arms and legs or extremities, because of the herniated disc compressing the spinal nerves. You should consult with your doctor or make an appointment for a consultation with us if your symptoms are not relieved with treatments like pain medication, stretching, or physical therapy.

In the endoscopic transforaminal discectomy procedure, an incision is made near the affected area. A tube is then inserted until it reaches the area damaged disc — the tube is used to introduce an endoscope and minimally invasive instruments to remove the affected disc.

AM I A CANDIDATE FOR ENDOSCOPIC TRANSFORAMINAL DISCECTOMY?

It is important to note that there is risk associate with all types of surgery.

An endoscopic transforaminal discectomy can provide faster pain relief than nonsurgical treatment, but should not be considered until you have tested more conservative treatments with the guidance of a specialist. You should consult with your doctor or make an appointment with us to determine if this procedure is the best approach for your condition.
