Laminoplasty is a procedure for treating spinal stenosis by relieving pressure on your spinal cord.
A laminoplasty involves surgically cutting the lamina (the arch of the vertebral bone) on both sides of the affected vertebrae and then swinging the cut flap of bone aside, which relieves any pressure on the spinal cord.
IS LAMINOPLASTY RIGHT FOR ME?
California Spine & Pain Institute patients who require laminoplasty have suffered damage to their vertebra, usually through spinal stenosis or degeneration, or some kind of compression fracture. The goal of laminoplasty is to provide relief from any pressure or pinching on the spine.
Instead of removing the bone, the lamina is partially cut on both the right and left sides, creating a hinge on one side of the lamina and a small opening on the other. The lamina is then moved into the “open” position, increasing the space available for the spinal cord and taking any pressure off of it.

Laminoplasty is a common procedure at California Spine & Pain Institute with generally high success rates. Because these are minimally invasive procedures, risks are considered lower when compared to more aggressive surgery.
