OptiMesh® Graft Containment

Patients suffering from lumbar conditions may be interested to know that Dr. Magued Fadly and the expert team at California Spine & Pain Institute specialize in a minimally invasive surgery option using OptiMesh® Graft Containment. OptiMesh® is a revolutionary, minimally invasive bone graft insertion using a three-dimensional mesh pouch filled with bone to restore alignment of the spine, increase stabilization and reduce pain.

Patients at California Spine & Pain Institute prefer the use of OptiMesh® technology over a more traditional lumbar surgery techniques because this treatment method results in minimal damage to muscle, ligaments and soft tissue, reduced post-operative pain, shorter length of hospital stay and faster recovery periods.

HOW DOES OPTIMESH® GRAFT CONTAINMENT WORK?

The OptiMesh® bone graft insertion system uses biological bone-filling material in order to achieve true biologic lumbar reconstruction with few technical risks.

During the procedure, Dr. Magued Fadly makes a small incision (1 inch or less). He then uses an extremely small tube to insert an empty three-dimensional mesh pouch into the correct position. Once the implant is placed correctly, a small tube is used to fill the implant with bone graft to expand it to its full size.

As OptiMesh® is filled with bone, the bone particles are contained within the mesh. As more particles are added, they pack together tightly until the bone pack becomes very hard – like sand filling a sand bag. This hard bone pack provides the proper environment needed for fusion to occur. When the procedure is complete, the patient now has a large, custom-fit, load-bearing allograft spacer.
